• Small individual depressed or fibrous scars

Any skin type and colour can have CIT, though darker skins may risk post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

• Roaccutane use in the last 6 months
• Pregnancy

• Abnormal wound healing.

Each skin responds differently and most skins will need multiple treatments at 4-6 week intervals, dependent on the initial condition being treated, and the desired outcome. This time frame allows us to see new collagen deposition and to assess the success of the treatment.

Please note: A very small number of skins will have a minimal response to CIT

Prior to having CIT, we recommend that the skin is primed with active ingredients for at least two weeks prior to the treatment, though we understand this isn’t always possible.

This helps to maximise treatment outcomes, assist in speeding the healing time and reduces the risk of post treatment complications. A specific skin care regime will be recommended to your at your initial consultation.

You may feel some pressure though you won’t feel any pain due to the topical anaesthetic that is applied prior to your procedure. This can be provided to you to apply before your appointment to save you time.

This will vary according to the size and strength of the area being treated.

• The scar or area being treated will have some bleeding during the procedure which stops almost immediately, then just appears pink or red in colour.
• It will form a crust or scab like appearance.
• The crust will fall off after 7-14 days depending on the area revealing the new skin.
• Best results can take up to 6 months to be seen.

• Avoid the use of moisturisers or lotions containing active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acids, perfumes and colours.
• Be gentle when cleansing etc and do not rub or pick the skin as this may lead to a scar.
• Keep the area moist and protected with Bepanthen cream for the duration of the healing time.
• Your skin will be a little more sensitive to the sun so keep sun exposure to a minimum.
• Protect the new skin from the sun by wearing a hat, and use a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily.
• Apply foundation as you wish after 24 hours.
• Continue with your recommended skin care once the skin is no longer sensitive.

• If the area is incorrectly cared for it can prolong healing and possibly lead to infection or scarring.
• It is important not to pick or remove the scab prematurely as it can lead to further scarring.
• Hyperpigmentation (darker areas of pigment on the skin) lasting 1 to 12 months.

Continue using your recommended skin care to inhibit collagen loss and help continue collagen production, and improve your overall skin health.
